Henri
Luitjes heads the Department of Distribution and Retailing of Wageningen
University & Research Centre. From this position, he is very much involved
in numerous innovative undertakings in the food retail sector. These
undertakings concern the performance of the shop and the organisation of the
chain. He is the initiator of the research programme ‘Fresh on Demand’ in
which many companies are working jointly on the reduction of shrinkage of
fresh food.
In his dealings with companies, he adopts a hands-on approach of stimulating
co-operation, innovation and market-oriented endeavours. He has enormous
drive and passion in supporting multidisciplinary research teams. He is a
networker in deed, always ready to bring companies together to work on
innovative breakthroughs.
Henri Luitjes studied chemistry at the Free University Amsterdam and
attained his M.Sc. with distinctions. After his masters studies, he began
his career at the Free University Amsterdam as a PhD student where he
consequently acquired his doctorate in organic chemistry.
After his studies, Henri worked as R&D project manager at Wageningen
University and Research Centre in the area of plastic materials. During this
period, he had successfully applied for patents for various innovations. In
2000, he made the switch to his current work area in Distribution and
Retailing.
